3. "Paterno stunned by firing in Penn State scandal"
A letter explaining that his employment had been terminated was hand delivered to Paterno's home, as a result of the sex scandal involving his assistant coach/heir. He'd already planned to retire at the end of the season in light of the scandal. He was fired after 61 years of coaching and 46 seasons at Penn State.

Joe Paterno was fired Wednesday night, and Graham B Spanier, the university president who has done much for the school, was also removed from his position. The reasoning for the firings is that they knew what Sandusky was doing and failed to report it.

2. "Penn State students clash with police in unrest after announcement"
The announcement of Paterno's firing led to a riot on Wednesday evening which resulted in the tipping of a news van and light poles being torn down. Students threw rocks and fireworks at police, who responded by spraying them with pepper spray.
